Child attacked by family’s pit bull

kansascity.com
An eight-year old boy was bitten Thursday evening by a pit bull in his home in Lenexa , police said.

The boy was bitten in the face by the pit bull, who was the family dog, said Sgt. Diana Mendoza of the Lenexa Police Department. The boy was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital, and his condition was not known.

Police and animal control responded to the call at a residence at 87th Street and Pflumm Road about 5 p.m. His father was in the other room when the dog bit the boy, Mendoza said. It’s still unclear what triggered the attack.

Family members said the dog, which had been in the home for about three years, had never been violent before, she said. The victim has four siblings who live in the home.

Animal control will keep the dog under observation for 10 days, and it will be up to the owner what he wants to do with the dog, she said.
